Factory-built homes
Are factory-built homes safe in storms and fires?
What national fire data and HUD wind standards mean for an Arizona home.

Fire-death rates
NFPA's analysis of 2007–2011 fire data found that the civilian fire-death rate per 100,000 housing units for manufactured homes was roughly equal to that of other one- and two-family homes.
The 1976 standards made a difference
The same report found that homes built after the 1976 HUD safety standards had a 57% lower fire-death rate per 100 reported fires than homes built before them.
Built for its wind zone
HUD's construction code (24 CFR § 3280.305) assigns every U.S. county to Wind Zone I, II or III, and homes are engineered for that zone's design wind load. Hurricane-exposed coastal counties fall in Zones II (100 mph) and III (110 mph).
What that means in Arizona
All of Arizona is in Wind Zone I, the baseline standard with a minimum 15 psf horizontal wind load. Every Champion home set in Arizona is engineered to meet or exceed the standard for our zone.
