Home buying
What does factory-built really mean?
How a home comes together—and what to confirm before buying.

A different building setting
Factory-built describes homes whose construction takes place partly or largely in a factory before delivery to a property. Construction standards depend on the home's classification. Manufactured and modular homes are not interchangeable terms; ask which type you are considering.
The site still matters
Factory construction is only part of the project. Site preparation, permits, foundations or installation systems, utility connections, and inspections still need to be coordinated. Ask who handles each item and whether it is included in your estimate.
Compare the complete picture
Review the floor plan, available finishes, warranty information, installation requirements, and total project cost. Financing and insurance can depend on the home and property, so confirm eligibility directly with your lender and insurer.
